The Legal Affairs Working Group is responsible for
determining legal impediments to interagency integration, generating
solutions to those impediments, and translating the Project’s
recommendations into a draft statutory text, presidential directives,
and congressional resolutions. Legal Affairs is critical for ensuring
that legal impediments to interagency integration are resolved and that
the Project’s final product submitted to Congress and the Executive
Branch is specific and actionable.
The Legal Research Team conducts legal research on various topics
ranging from major constitutional questions to specific statutory
impediments to greater interagency integration. The Working Group
Liaisons Team members function as mini-general counsels within other
analytical working groups and provide situational awareness. The Legal
Advisory Board provides strategic advice to Legal Affairs and reviews
the work of the Legal Research Team. The Outreach Team maintains the
Legal Advisory Board and arranges interviews with current and former
government attorneys and other key individuals.
Legal Affairs has benefited greatly from the generous pro bono legal support from such reputable law firms as:
• Arnold & Porter LLP
• Bingham McCutchen LLP
• Crowell & Moring LLP
