Jim Nussle

Office of Management and Budget

Mr. Nussle severed in the cabinet of President George W. Bush as the Director of the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB). As the Director, Mr. Nussle was the chief executive officer of the agency that is responsible for the successful development, enactment and implementation of the president’s fiscal agenda, regulatory priorities and functions as the “clearing agency” for all Administration policy decisions and official communication on behalf of the president. 

During his service at the White House, Mr. Nussle also served as an advisor to the president as a member of the National Economic Council, National Security Council, Homeland Security Council and National Domestic Policy Council. 

Prior to his Executive Branch service, for 16 years Mr. Nussle represented Iowa in the U.S. House of Representatives where he earned a reputation as an effective and accomplished leader. In Congress he served on the Budget, Ways and Means, Agriculture and Banking Committees becoming an expert on such issues taxes, finance, world trade, health care and energy. 

In 2001, Mr. Nussle was elected by his peers to three straight two year terms as the chairman of the influential House Budget Committee. He was successful in drafting and shepherding six consecutive federal budgets through Congress that initially provided a surplus, reduced taxes and the national debt, while addressing some of the most challenging and turbulent security and economic times our country has ever faced.

Mr. Nussle received his B.A. in Political Science, Economics and International studies from Luther College and his law degree from Drake University. He serves on the boards of the Committee for Responsible Federal Budget, National Down Syndrome Society, Project for National Security Reform, AVISTA Capital Partners and Rebuilding Together.
